Dear Doug,
As you know, I get some of my Mads signed by sending them to people and requesting a signature. Well, for the past few months I have been trying, and trying, and trying to contact the artist of Mad #38, J. Fred Muggs. Yes I know he's a chimpanzee, but from what I've last heard, he's still able to draw and what not. Well, he's getting old, and all I know is that his current owner's name is Gerald Preis. So, I was wondering if you could put up an ad, that I am offering a $25 money order reward to the first person that can supply me with a valid address for the chimp, and his owner. I'd really like to get him to sign the Mad, and am seriously willing to give a $25 reward. I know it's a little Mad (apologize for the pun), but this is my last resort. I've tried every other thing I could think of, including email Dick DeBartolo of Mad Magazine (who thinks I'm crazy by the way). So, if you could put this offer up on your site long enough for me to get an answer, that'd be great. You can tell them to email me here (ScoobyDooGuy1991@go.com). Thanks again,
Bradford

p.s. my response from Mr. Debartolo
(in case you were wondering about it from August 2007):
Bradford,
An address from almost 50 years ago? MAD has moved five times since that cover and there's no one here who was even around when that issue was put together. It took me five hours to find out where I put your email and that came in just two days ago! Short version, we truly have no idea how to contact Mr. Muggs.
Dick De

About two and a half years later...

Doug,
I included my most amazing success yet, Mad #38 signed by J. Fred Muggs! Yes, I finally managed to locate him! It seems as though Mr. Muggs signed it below his actual printed name, which I assume was written by his current handler, Mr. Gerald Preis. I'm contemplating emailing the photo to Mr. DeBartolo, to see if he sends back some sort of shocked response....
Sincerely,
Bradford

One hour later...

Bradford,
I had no idea monkeys lived that long! It's amazing that you were able to find him. I'm going to send your email and photo on to the editor of MAD. Maybe they'll consider using the photo on the letter's page.
Thanks!
Dick De
