Lot #3 - Pre-MAD Magazine / Alfred E. Neuman America And Peace Sticker RARE MB $40

Here's a cool early piece of Alfred E. Neuman memorabilia. Probably produced in the 1920's by The Strobridge Litho Co., this is a sticker with an early likeness of MAD Magazine's Alfred E. Neuman on the front. The words, "America And Peace" are printed at the top of the sticker, with the words, "I'm For Both!" appearing at the bottom. This sticker is commonly known among MAD Magazine memorabilia collectors as the "America For Peace" sticker, as that is how it is described in the MAD collectors bible, Collectibly MAD. However, the word "For" was mistakenly used in the description, as this sticker clearly has the word "And" printed at the top. In any event, this sticker measures approx. 1 3/4" by 2 1/4", and is in Excellent display condition.

Here's a super rare piece of MAD Magazine and Don Martin memorabilia. Produced in 1979 by Warner Books and EC Publications, this is a piece of color production art for a store display sign featuring the cover of the MAD paperback book, Don Martin Digs Deeper. You could really call this item a full sized color print of the sign, because that is what I think it really is. The UGOI who consigned this item indicated they plucked this from the MAD Art room at 485 Madison Ave. while they were preparing to move to their new 1700 Broadway location. Here's your chance to grab an incredibly rare MAD Magazine collectible.

Lot #21 - MAD Magazine #533 Weird Al Concert Tour Giveaway Edition RARE MB $25

Here's a super cool (and rare) piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Published in 2015 by E.C. Publications, this is a special free giveaway issue of MAD Magazine. Featuring the musician, Weird Al Yankovic, on the front cover, this is MAD Magazine issue #533. But what makes this item special is that this particular issue was a free giveaway during his 2015 US tour. All MAD Magazines that are sold over the counter, at newsstands, or are subscription copies have a UPC barcode on the front cover, so that the cashier can scan it and sell it. This issue does not have the UPC barcode on the front cover. The middle photo shows two issues of MAD #533 with their respective corners. The bottom one is a subscription copy (with the white mailing cover attached) and the top is the giveaway copy. These issues are in Excellent display condition, with storage and handling wear. You will receive both issues.

This book (as well as its companion #2 book) were once thought as the only MAD Magazine books printed in the Japanese language. But persistent digging by a certain MAD Magazine memorabilia collector revealed at least two other Japanese MAD paperback books from the early 1970’s. In any case, this book reprints selected cover art and interior pages from past issues of MAD, then translates the words in the word balloons into Japanese language symbols. This book is in Excellent display condition, with light storage and handling wear.

These books feature reprints from past issues of MAD Magazine, with no original content. These books are rare, however, as they are hard-to-find, Campus Book Club editions. The Campus Book Club offered special printing editions of popular books and periodicals, mostly at discounted prices for both students and staff. The only distinguishing characteristic between these books is the appearance of the black, “Campus Book Club Edition” insignia at the top left-hand corner of the front cover of the Recycled MAD book, and the words, “Campus Book Club Edition” underneath the red MAD logo of the Polyunsaturated MAD book. These books are in terrific display condition, with surface, corner and edge wear, and lightly browned pages.

Lot #28 – Set of Eight (8) Swedish MAD Magazine Paperback Books 1960's-1980’s MB $15

Here’s a cool collection of foreign MAD Magazine memorabilia. Published in the 1960's, 1970's, and 1980's by Semic Press AB, this is a set of eight (8) paperback books from the Swedish version of MAD Magazine. These books feature no original content and are direct translations of their American counterparts. All of these books have been previously enjoyed, and are in decent display condition, with storage and handling wear. The two Don Martin books (upper left hand and lower right hand in Picture One), are the same title. The difference is that the book shown in the lower right hand corner is a Second Printing.

Lot #29 - MAD Magazine #24 First Magazine Sized Issue 1955 MB $25

Here’s the one that started it all. Published in 1955 by E.C. Publications, this is MAD Magazine #24, the first magazine sized issue of MAD Magazine. The first twenty-three (23) issues of MAD were 10-cent comic books, and it took three (3) years for MAD to convert to a full-size humor magazine. While MAD #24 is not especially rare (they can be found, but can be expensive), this issue is on the lower end of the condition scale. This issue is complete, but shows surface, corner and edge wear. There is a grease pencil mark on the front cover (probably put there by the distributor), and there is a 1” tear at the bottom of the front cover. The magazine also has a little wave to it, which is prominent if you lay it flat. All in all, this issue is a great value at the opening bid, so if you’re looking for a less expensive issue that you can hold in your hands, this is it.

Lot #30 - MAD Magazine Promotional Bookmark The Idiotical Blog 2011 MB $10

Here’s a super cool piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Produced in 2011 by E.C. Publications, this is a MAD Magazine promotional bookmark. Here’s a very cool piece of foreign MAD Magazine memorabilia. Produced in Germany in the 2000’s, this item is a MAD Magazine / Alfred E. Neuman cloisonne pin. This pin was made as a promotional item for the German version of MAD Magazine and is very well done. It measures approx. 1” by 1 ½", and this particular pin appears to have never been worn. It is in Near Mint condition, with light storage and handling wear.

Lot #32 - MAD Magazine / Don Martin Display Poster "Voting Booth" 1976 MB $75

Here’s an ultra-rare piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Produced in 1976 by Western Graphics Corporation, this item is a MAD Magazine / Don Martin wall poster. It was always thought that there were just two (2) different MAD Magazine / Don Martin posters produced by Western Graphics, with those being the “Fishing” poster and the "Protect Our Wildlife" poster. Well, it seems that a third poster was produced, which shows a man urinating in a voting booth. I am not sure why this poster was never produced, although I am inclined to think that "toilet humor" was thought to be in bad taste among the MAD editorial staff. Measuring approx. 21” by 32”, this item is in terrific display condition, with storage and handling wear. This is probably the only one of its kind in existence, as the UGOI who consigned it indicated that it was the only known copy ever seen in the Art Department at MAD. WOW!!!!

Lot #33 - The MAD Panic Fanzine Issue #14 Bill Gaines Tribute Issue 1992 MB $10

Here's a cool piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Published in 1992 by Ed Norris, this lot contains issue #14 of the MAD Magazine fanzine, The MAD Panic. The MAD Panic was a bi-monthly fanzine, and was normally twelve (12) pages in length. It covered a variety of topics in the world of MAD Magazine, from recent MAD collectibles and early appearances of Alfred E. Neuman, to MAD Magazine news bits and a MAD Magazine collectors registry. This particular issue, however, is the Bill Gaines tribute issue, and contains reprinted obituaries from several different newspapers around the USA. This issue has been read several times, but is still in terrific display condition.

Lot #34 - The "Soul Of MAD" Color Prints Collection w/ Envelope RARE MB $15

Here's a cool piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Produced in 2012 by E.C. Publications, this is a set of twelve (12) full color prints of selected pieces of MAD Magazine cover art. Collectively called, "The Soul Of MAD", these pieces of classic MAD Magazine cover art were selected as the most representative of what MAD Magazine was all about. It was these covers that were saved from the major MAD Magazine original art auctions at Christie's and Sotheby's auction houses in New York City in the 1990's (but were later sold in their own MAD Magazine original art auction at Heritage Auctions in Dallas). There are twelve prints total, and all of them are in Mint condition. They each measure approx. 8" by 10", and all are suitable for framing. The original storage envelope is also included, which is in Near Mint condition.

Lot #35 - MAD Magazine / Alfred E. Neuman Promotional $3 Bill 1970's MB $10

Here's a cool piece of MAD Magazine and Alfred E. Neuman memorabilia. Produced in the early 1970's by E.C. Publications, this is a promotional Alfred E. Neuman $3 bill. This item features Alfred E. Neuman on the front, and the detailed artwork of the fake currency tells me that this was created by MAD Magazine artist, Bob Clarke. This item has been printed on light card stock, with no image on the back. It measures approx. 2 ½" by 6", and is in Excellent display condition.

These were originally sold in K-Mart stores, but the distribution wasn't very good.

Lot #37 - Certifiably MAD Collection / Paperback Boxed Set Store Display Sign MB $25

Here's a super rare piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. This lot contains an original display sign for the line of Certifiably MAD Collection paperback boxed sets . Produced in the 1970's by Warner Books, this sign has the same art as the slipcase for the Certified MAD boxed sets. Measuring approx. 12" by 14", this item is in Excellent display condition, with a light crease down the center of the poster, and a red smudge near the upper left hand corner. An orange version of the Certifiably MAD paperback boxed set is shown for size comparison only, and is not included in the auction.

Lot #38 - MAD Magazine / Stanley DeSantis Catalog Order Form 1992 MB $10

Here's a cool piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. This is a sales order form from clothing manufacturer, Stanley DeSantis. Back in the early 1990's, Stanley DeSantis produced a line of MAD Magazine t-shirts and hats. There were several different styles of t-shirts, and different colors for each style also were produced. There was only one style of hat produced, and is featured a silk-screened image of Alfred E. Neuman on the front. The book, Collectibly MAD, indicates that Stanley DeSantis also produced a line of MAD Magazine sweatshirts, but I have never come across one, nor does this order form show any options for ordering a sweatshirt. This item is very cool, as it shows all of the styles of MAD t-shirts that were offered for sale.

Lot #39 - MAD / The Animated TV Series Promotional 100th Episode T-Shirt MB $20

This is a cool MAD Magazine t-shirt. Produced in 2015, this item is a promotional t-shirt from the MAD Animated TV Series, which airs on the Cartoon Network. As a special bonus, the graphics on this shirt were drawn by the popular MAD Magazine cartoonist, Mr. Sergio Aragones. Measuring an Adult size Medium, this t-shirt is unused, and in wrinkled Mint condition.

Lot #40 - MAD Magazine Promotional Football Helmet Logo Cloisonne Pin MB $10

This is a cool MAD Magazine promotional cloisonne pin. Produced by Brian Fitterman, this pin was made by the same company that made the MAD Subscription premium pins from the early 1990's. This football helmet pin was never offered for sale by MAD, and was used as a office giveaway premium. This example is still factory sealed, and in presumed Mint condition.

Lot #125 - MAD Magazine / 35th Anniversary Edition Wall Clock Ultra-Rare 1987 MB $350

Here is one of the rarest licensed pieces of MAD Magazine memorabilia ever created. Produced in 1987 by Concepts Plus, this is the never released "Wall Clock" version of the 35th anniversary MAD Magazine wristwatch. Originally, there were three (3) different styles of MAD watches produced by Concepts Plus. They featured a full color Alfred E. Neuman image on the face of the watch (with his legs serving as the hour and minute hands) and were found with a plastic band, a vinyl band (with different color variations), or a leather band. This item, however, is a prototype of the larger "wall clock" version that was never released. It has been said that a few of these prototpes were produced and given to the MAD staff, but recent inquiries sent to a few of the last members of the New York UGOI revealed that none of them ever received one. I do know for a fact that this particular clock in this auction belonged to MAD writer, Dick DeBartolo, who found it in his storage unit back in 2007 or 2008. I convinced him to put it on eBay, where it sold for several hundred dollars. It has since changed hands a few times, and is now being offered in my auction. It could quite conceivably be the only one left, or at least one of "a few" (according to Collectibly MAD). It measures approx. 6 1/2" by 25", and a deck of MAD playing cards is shown next to this clock in the first photo for size comparison only. It appears that Mr. DeBartolo never hung this clock with the bands extended, as there is tape residue on one of the band consistent with the bands being folded behind the clock, then secured together with tape. I also have not installed a battery in the back of the clock, simply because this is not my item to be tested and played with, and I don't want to potentially break it. But it appears that a AA battery will do the trick. I’ve also noticed that setting the time with the hour and minute hands is easy with the dial on the back, but sometimes the hour hand slides down to the “6” position after adjusting. I’m thinking the hands need a little tightening, but I’ll leave that up to you. All in all, this item is in terrific display condition, and would be the centerpiece of your MAD collection. It is also close to being one-of-a-kind status, which is rare in the world of licensed MAD Magazine memorabilia.

Lot #135 - The MAD Show PREVIEW Show Program w/ Ticket Stub RARE MB $100

Here’s an ultra rare piece of The MAD Show memorabilia. Produced in 1965 by the New Theatre in New York City, this is a program from a preview showing of The MAD Show. It is common for most Broadways shows to have preview performances, with many of these previews taking place up to a month before opening night. Previews allow the cast and crew to fine tune the show before it is subject to critical review by the media. The announced cast is also scheduled to appear during these performances, unless otherwise noted. This particular preview performance of The MAD Show took place on December 23, 1965, a full seventeen (17) days before the official opening night on January 9, 1966. This program is a precursor to the more popular Showcards or Playbills that are commonly seen on websites like eBay, and it is quite rare itself. But, even rarer is the New Theatre ticket stub that is also included. It shows the date (December 23, 1965), the seat number (Orchestra Row K Seat 10), and the show time (Midnight). Also included is a piece of yellowed tape that once adhered the ticket stub to the front of the program. Unfortunately, the tape is no longer doing its intended job, but it is still included with the stub. All items in this lot are in Excellent display condition, with the front of the program showing yellowed tape residue. If you have been looking for a rare piece of The MAD Show memorabilia, then this is for you!

In many selling instances, the print is often missing from the album jacket, either because the user kept it or it simply fell out. This particular print is from the album titled, "CHA CHA CHA For Normal People". It measures approx. 8" by 10", and is in Near Mint condition, with light storage and handling wear.

The item in Picture Three is an actual countertop version of the MAD display rack, and the tab shown on the rack is identical to the one being auctioned here. The countertop rack in Picture Three is not for sale, but is shown for comparison only. This metal tab measures approx. 7" in length, and shows surface and handling wear. There are also two different places on each end of the tab where it was once bent and attached to the display rack.

The logo side also shows the letters, S-E-R-G-I-O A-R-A-G-O-N-E-S, along with the titles of a few magazines, all written by Sergio Aragones. I believe these letters to be an idea of his that didn't work out, so he stopped. Even though the Aragones lettering is cool, I think that the MAD Magazine logo and mailing address is even better, as postcards with this mailing address are hardly ever seen. This postcard is in terrific display condition, with a few age spots. It measures approx. 3 1/4" by 5 1/2".

One shows a man standing and holding an issue of MAD, another man sitting on a chair with an issue of MAD, with a spider hanging in front of his nose, and a "Kilroy Was Here" image on the right edge. After the artist did the job, they were to return the painted Spy figure back to MAD so that it could be photographed next to all of the other painted Spies for a 50th Anniversay oster (see Picture Three). It turns out that a local Milwaukee artist (Doug Paszkiewicz) who also freelances for MAD, decided not to paint his Spy figure, simply because he wasn't going to get paid to do it. During this particular show, however, they had a very special guest: Bill Gaines, who was declared the Guest Of Honor. This program appears to be unread, and is in Near Mint condition, with a light line shadow at the top of the front cover, probably caused by something being stacked on top of it for a number of years.

Here's a cool piece of Jack Davis memorabilia. Produced in 1980 by the NBC Television Network, this is a promotional cast photo from the adult comedy/drama serial, Number 96. This is not a real photo of the cast. Rather, it contains caricatures of the cast members drawn by MAD Magazine's Jack Davis. There are eighteen (18) different actors shown on this photo, but I'll be darned if I could place a name with any of the faces. Since it only ran for three episodes, I can understand that there were no "stars" in the cast. The photo is Jack Davis at his finest, and measures approx. 7 1/4" by 9". There is a press release attached to the photo that measures approx. 7" by 8 1/2". Both items are in Excellent display condition.

Here's a unique piece of Sergio Aragones memorabilia. Produced in the 2000's this is a wooden wall hanging that features a laser engraving of a piece of Sergio Aragones art. I am not sure from where this art originated from (a MAD article, a MAD marginal, a paperback book)? I'm not even sure if the text originally went with the art. In any event, this item is very cool, and is enclosed in its own frame. It can be hung on a wall, or place on a table. The outer frame measurements are approx. 5 7/8" by 7 7/8", and this item is in Excellent display condition.

Lot #245 - Collectibly MAD Hardcover Book Autographed By Grant Geissman MB $40

Here's a super rare piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Published in 1995 by Kitchen Sink Press, this is a First Edition hardcover copy of Collectibly MAD. Collectibly MAD is considered the "Bible" to most MAD Magazine and EC Comic memorabilia collectors, as it contains pictures and detailed desciptions of almost every piece of MAD Magazine and EC Comic memorabilia you can think of. There were three (3) versions of this book released. One was a bound paperback version, one was a simple hardcover version, and the last was a hardcover version that had a certificate signed by Bill Gaines and was placed inside a protective slipcase. All three versions have the MAD Magazine and EC Comics logos as their end pages, and this version has the red paper. This item is in Excellent display condition, with light surface and handling wear. It has also been signed by the author, Grant Geissman, with his signature and a small greeting.

Lot #246 - MAD Magazine Original 1979 Screenplay Not The "Academy" Film MB $100

Here's a super rare piece of MAD Magazine history. Created in 1979 by a group of writers that included MAD Magazine writer, Arnie Kogen, this is an original screenplay about MAD Magazine. There are 109 pages of original material, among those being some very primitive pieces of artwork. This screenplay bears no resemblance to Up The Academy, which was released a year later in 1980, but after skimming through a few random pages, it appears that it is close to being in the same genre of film (a campy teenage comedy). This item was submitted to the MAD editorial team in 1979, and my guess is that they vetoed the idea. In any event, this item is in Excellent display condition, with light storage and handling wear.

Lot #247 - Alfred E. Neuman Pinback Button Unlicensed 1980's? MB $5

Here's a cool piece of Alfred E. Neuman memorabilia. Probably produced in the 1980's, this is an Alfred E. Neuman pinback button. This pinback features the classic Alfred E. Neuman image (from the hand of Norman Mingo), but is one of the smaller pinback buttons I've seen with this image printed on it. It measures approx. 1" in diameter, and is the same size as a US 25 cent piece coin. There is some wear and rubbing on the back of the pin, otherwise it is in Excellent display condition.

Lot #248 - MAD Magazine / Subscription Print Original Mailing Envelope 2011 MB $5

Here's a cool piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Produced in 2011, this item is a generic light cardboard mailing envelope. But, this specific envelope was used by MAD to mail a MAD subscription print. It could have been the Scarecrow print. It could have been the Umbrella print. It could have been the Uncle Sam print. Frankly it could have been any of the prints. Who knows which one? In any case, if you need one of these to store your prints, then this is the perfect item for you. It measures approx. 12 5/8" by 15 3/4", and is in solid, sturdy condition. There is a MAD Magazine address stamped on the upper left hand corner, and a postage meter stamp on the upper right hand corner. The original recipients address has been removed, however.

Lot #249 - MAD Magazine #105 Original Production Photograph Copy 1966 MB $10

Here's a super rare piece of MAD Magazine memorabilia. Produced in 1965 by E.C. Publications, this is an original production photograph copy of the original cover painting to MAD Magazine #105. This cover art was drawn by the great Norman Mingo, and depicts Alfred E. Neuman as the character, Robin. This photograph has been printed on a piece of glossy production paper, and has been stored away for several years. It was saved from the trash heap by an anonymous member of the UGOI when MAD began their move to their 1700 Broadway address, and I for one am happy for that. It measures approx. 8 1/2" by 11", and is in Excellent display condition, with light storage and handling wear.

Lot #250 - MAD Magazine / MAD Racing Original Pit Crew Uniform Shirt RARE $150

Here's a super rare piece of MAD Magazine and MAD Racing memorabilia. Produced in 1997 for Toliver Motorsports, this is an original pit crew uniform shirt for the MAD Racing team of Jerry Toliver. This is certainly not a one-of-a-kind shirt, as there is a laundry inventory label attached to the inside neck of the shirt. But, when was the last time you saw one of these? Probably never, as these were more than likely discarded when the Toliver team joined a different sponsorship deal. In any case, this shirt is beautiful and has been lightly worn and laundered. It measures an Adult size Extra-Large (XL).
